We had the pleasure of having our profile reviewed by BestLight and we are currently implementing the 23 suggestions Lori provided. When we embarked on our adoption journey we wrote our profile with very little guidance, and writing about yourself can be so difficult. Add to that the uncertainty of whether an expectant parent will choose you. You worry about every little word, and every single picture! We were to the point where we needed to make sure that our profile spoke to expectant parents and showed them that we would make wonderful parents! Unfortunately, our version didn’t exactly do that, but that’s where Lori came in.

The process was quite simple. We filled out a brief questionnaire. Then Lori analyzed our hard copy profile (for the agency) and our online profile (the one we advertise ourselves). She gave us 23 suggestions and improvements. She also helped us with some rewording so that our intentions were clear. And she helped us see the situation from the expectant parents’ perspective.

Lori delivered her suggestions in such a loving way that made us both feel very comfortable with hearing her suggestions. Receiving her review felt more like being gently guided through the profile process and we didn’t feel like we were being critiqued personally. After receiving her report and review we felt invigorated about making the changes and are in the final stages of completing the design of the document and changing our online profile. We just needed a little outside help.

Having that third-party perspective really helped create a profile that represents us both as loving and attentive would-be parents and we’re so happy with the results — our son came to us shortly thereafter.

My husband & I have three biological children and after an early hysterectomy decided to adopt. I was very impatient and also worried we wouldn’t get picked because of the family we already have. After about seven months…several calls for our profile and one interview, I contacted Lori @ Best Light. We were with three agencies and they all thought our profile was outstanding…”one of the best ever.” They told us continually that they loved it. I kept thinking, if it is so good, why haven’t we been picked?

Lori showed me how to look at our book through the eyes of expectant parents and to address some of their possible concerns they may have…head on. When we submitted our revised profile, we were soon invited to meet an expectant mom. Using much of Lori’s advice, we were chosen and added our daughter into our family! Our agencies agreed that our Best Light “enhanced” profile was better than the first.

Most importantly, working with Lori was a much needed shot in the arm for me and my husband. I was starting to feel hopeless about adopting. I would strongly recommend using her. She will give you great feedback and even have her birthmothers give you input on your profile.
